Problems will come your way – don’t be afraid of them :

As long as you keep your thoughts raised high,

Stir your spirit and your body.

Problems – you won’t encounter them

Unless you bring them along inside your soul.

Unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

 

I hope your road is a long one.

May there be summer mornings when,

With what pleasure, what joy,

You enter harbors you are seeing for the first time;

 

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.

Arriving there is what you are destined for.

But don’t hurry the journey at all.

Better if it lasts for years,

So you’re old by the time you reach the island,

Wealthy with all you’ve gained on the way,

Not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

 

Ithaka gave you a marvelous journey.

Without her, you wouldn’t have set out.

She has nothing left to give you now.

 

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won’t have fooled you.

Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,

You’ll have understood by then what these Ithaka’s mean.

This poem by the Greek poet Cavafy is a beautifully crafted answer to the question, “What is the purpose of life?” The journey is all that matters. In a birth chart, the sign & house of the Sun and North node give insights into what this journey is about. We never finish what we are meant to become. If, for example, you have the Sun in the 7th house, in time, you will become quite good in the area of relationships, but still, you will always feel that there is more to discover and unfold. Or, if you have the Sun in Gemini, you will always think you could perfect your communication and knowledge.

 

Aspect to the Sun will always say something about your journey's pace, timing, and rhythm. For example, if you have Sun/Pluto, you will always need to transform and rise higher by meeting new challenges.

Plato thought the studies of astrology, geometry, and music were the great gateways to the “eternal realities” of which the solar circle is a symbol. It is like a door opening through which light flows in, and there is a sense of connection with one’s specialness and purpose, which is very hard to describe.
